72 o CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, June 13 - June 19, 2003 GARDEN & FARM Raincan't dampen annual Milton Garden Tour It didn't just rain during the Milton garden tour, it poured all after- noon June 7. Locals and visitors, though, still came out to enjoy some of the finest gardens the town has to offer. Richard McFeteridge, Er*k Sumptton photo, right, guides Karen Brittingham, left, of Ellendale and Billy Lynn Thompson of Milton under the cover of ponchos and umbrellas. Above, watching over the garden at the Serenna Guest House is Elena Cook of Milton while the rain pummels the umbrella and bench around her. Many homeowners took the opportunity to welcome garden tourists into their homes to dry off and enjoy tea, coffee or lemonade. At right, flowers show another facet to their beauty when the rain sprinkles droplets of water on their petals as is shown by this hybrid rose, Crimson Glory. One of the most spectacular gardens was that of Flo- rence and George Kruer who were included on the tour again due to popular demand. The garden is set along the northern branch of Red Mill Pond and carries a wide variety of rose, azaleas, perennials and hosta.
