Each year the AAUW gives a scholarship to the female student who has achieved the highest scholas- tic average while completing a two-year parallel program, and who will continue her education at a four-year col- lege. This year's recipient is Kelly Sirman, a graduate of Indian River High School, who plans to attend Salis- bury State to major in physi- cal therapy. The AAUW honored one of its own, Betty Martin, left, of Lewes, as Sussex County Woman of the Year, at its an- nual banquet. Presenting the award was Pat Swanson who noted some of the activities in which Martin has been in- volved, such as treasurer of the Georgetown branch AAUW and state treasurer for two terms. She is very ac- tive in fundraising for the club.
