110 FRIDAY, JUNE 19 - MONDAY, JUNE 22, 2009 SPORTS & OUTDOORS Cape Gazette DAN COOK PHOTOS CAPE GIRLS, BOYS GATHER FOR ALL-STAR LACROSSE GAME CAPE FIRST TEAM ALL-STATE AND HONORABLE MENTION All-American goalie Lee Ann Redefer gamered the most respected award for a Delaware lacrosse player as she received the Jay Spilecki Memorial Scholarship duringthe 2009 DIAA Senior All-Star Lacrosse game at the University of Delaware Saturday, June 13. The award is presented to the player who ex- hibits the qualities of good academic standing, serious intentions of playing college lacrosse, dedication to the game and out- standing recommendations from coaches and other outside sources. Jay Spilecki, who lost his life in a car accident in 1997, played for Brandywine High School and was known for his fierce determination and competitiveness on the Bulldogs team. Part of the proceeds of the DIAA Senior All-Star Game go to replenish the scholarship fund to keep Jay's memory and his love for the game alive. Shown with Redefer are Sue and Jerry Spilecki. Redefer will attend and play for Mary Washington College in Virginia. Former Cape and Lynchburg College goalie Franc Cook won the award in 2008. The game was called at halftime because of the weather with the Blue leading the white 5-3. The game ended with the Blue team (representing Lipstate schools) handily defeating the White team (mostly downstate players) 21-7.
