Craftworks opened a 2,800 sq. ft. store in the Rehoboth Outlets III on May 15, increasing the chain's presence to six stores. Founded in 1995 by Ralph Fiore and Steven Rostoff, Craftworks has three stores in New England, as well as locations at .Wheaton Plaza Mall in Wheaton, Md., and at Landmark Mall in Alexandria, Va. The company's success is based on the premise that the buy- consumers, as well as the crafters themselves, are under-served by traditional weekend craft shows. By placing their professionally designed and managed stores in high-traffic malls and other retail centers, Craftworks brings the crafts to the customers and frees artisans from the distractions of marketing and selling their work. This marriage of craftsmanship and convenience seems to be working well for crafters and craft lovers alike, company officials say. The Craftworks concept has di:,play their crafts in a secure and attractive gift-shop setting where a rained staff provides display, sa es, inventory and record-keep- in : services.
