40 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, June 26 - July 2, 1998 Briefly Caregiver meeting set in Milford July 7 The Kent/Sussex Advisory Council of the Delaware Alzheimer's Association will hold its next caregiver meeting for the Milford area at l0 a.m., July 7, at the Reformation Lutheran Church, Milford. The meeting is to acquaint peo- ple in Kent and Sussex counties, who are directly or indirectly af- fected by AIzheimer's, with the services available through the Alzheimer's Association. MS support group to meet July 1 The self-help support group for patients with multiple sclerosis and their families and friends will mee at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Ju- ly 1, in Beebe Medical Center's cafeteria. The next meeting is July 14. The program is sponsored by the American Heart Association and Beebe Medical Center. For more infor- mation, call 645-3514. Arthritis group cancels summer meetings Beebe Medical Center and the Arthritis Foundation will not host a support group meeting again un- til September. For more informa- tion, call 645-3263. CPR recertification class starts Thursday, July 9 Beebe Medical Center is offer- ing a cardiopulmonary resuscita- tion (CPR) recertification course from 9 a.m. to noon, Thursday, July 9. The cost is $25 and is open only to those currently certified in CPR. For more information or to register, call 645-3248. Aneurysm screenings offered in July Beebe Medical Center's vascu- lar laboratory holds free aortic ab- dominal aneurysm screenings every Wednesday and Thursday. Men wishing to be tested must be between 60 and 75, have a history of cigarette smoking, hyperten- sion, coronary artery disease and/or a family history of aortic aneurysm. Females must have a positive history of aneurysm. Screenings will be July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. To schedule an ap- pointment, call 645-3710. Blood sugar tests offered July 1 Beebe Medical Center, in con- junction with the American Dia- betes Association, provides free blood glucose testing by finger stick from 1 to 3 p.m., each Wednesday, in the Phlebotomy Lab on the first floor. The next screening is July 1. People should have the test two hours after eat- ing a normal meal. Call 645-3568 to make an appointment. Hepatitis support group meets Monday, July 13 A chronic hepatitis support group will meet at 6 p.m., Mon- day, July 13, in the Beebe Medical Center classroom. Mzheimer's group to meet July 16 A support group for Alzheimer's disease and other mentally impairing diseases meets from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Beebe Med- ical Center's Gull House, the third Thursday of each month, at 23 Terrace St. The next meeting is Focus on Health Sleep disorders topic of July 7 seminar A free Focus on Health seminar, "I Can't Sleep; I Can't Stay Awake," will begin at 6:30 p.m., Tues- day, July 7, at the Lewes Public Library. Dr. Michael Salvatore, a pulmonologist and spe- cialist for sleep disorders, will discuss insomnia and excessive daytime sleepiness. To register, call 645-3332. Participants share with one another in the hopes of solving common problems and helping others to recover and maintain functional relationships. The program is free.
