CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, June 26. July 2, 1998.59 Woodcarvers make their mark on Cape Rcglon landscape 'Mongo' shapes art from inspiration for Angola resident By Trish Vernon People riding through the Woods on Herring Creek in An- gola Neck are doing a double take as they come across "Chief Little Owl" standing guard over the home of Fred Webb. The 12-foot-tall chief is the cre- ative handiwork of Rob Lucus, or "Mongo," as he is known in local circles, who was inspired by the original totem pole in Bethany Beach, carved by Peter Toth. Earlier this week, Beach set up his complement of saws, logs and wood preservative in front of the Roadhouse and bore down on Continued on page 60 Rob Lucus, better known as Mongo, stands with "Chief Lit- tle Owl," the totem pole he is now putting the finishing touch- es on which guards over a Woods on Herring Creek home.
