Aurora Grill in Lewes is a t,00vorite spot for both k ,:;ds and visitors to the area Like an old friend, Aurora Grill in Lewes has become a favorite and familiar site in the Cape Region. Situated at 329 Savannah Road, at the for- mer location of Exel's, Aurora Grill features break- fast and lunch in its comfortable, inviting setting and is a favorite of both locals and visitors. After an extensive renovation to the establish- ment, proprietor Sue Cline opened Aurora Grill this spring. The restaurant is nestled in the heart of Lewes, making it convenient to both beachgoers and shoppers. Breakfast is served anytime at the friendly eatery, which opens at 5 a.m. Menu items include standby favorites such as creamed chip beef with buttermilk biscuits, butter- milk and buckwheat pancakes and special-recipe, malted waffles and French toast. Aurora also has three-egg omelets, served with toast or biscuits and your choice of homefries, grits or a side salad. In addition, Aurora Grill also offers "Hearts Desire," which means any egg dishes on the menu may be prepared with an egg substitute. Side orders of sausage, bacon or scrapple are also available. The lunch menu is diverse, with palate- pleasing options for almost every taste. No matter what the size of your appetite, Aurora Grill is sure to have something you'll find tasty and is anything but boring. As a starter, sample the restaurant's Sea Sampler, a combination of shrimp, clams and whitefish, light- I ly battered and served with a side of dipping sauce, ] or the Surf Board, a warm spinach tortilla filled with I Swiss cheese, shredded crab, onions and jalapefio I peppers and topped with sour cream, salsa and gua- camole. Several different soups are offered, including the restaurant's own Firehouse Chili. True to its name, this three-alarm favorite is described on the menu as being "thick with beans, beef and attitude." There's also vegetarian chili, Chili Works, topped with shredded jack and cheddar cheese, extra onions and served in a bread bowl; and French onion soup. Also, be sure to check out the soups of the day. Salads and lighter fare also grace the lunch menu and include signature selections such as its Chicken Caesar pasta salad, made with spinach and tomato pasta and Aurora's own Caesar dressing, or its week- ly deli salads. Headed by an item called the Funky Monkey, a combination of peanut butter, honey, almonds, sprouts and bananas layered between two slices of whole wheat bread; the specialty sandwich heading also includes other clever creations crafted by the Aurora Grill. Maybe you'll opt for the Beach Bum, a turkey, chicken or roast beef sandwich served club-style on toasted bread of your choice, or Reuben's Reprise, a concoction of corned beef, sauerkraut and rye. The entrte portion of the menu includes choices such as crab cakes, chicken parmesan and Sue's Spaghetti. Aurora Grill also features many selec- tions under its "Just For Kids" portion. Top off your visit to Aurora Grill with a piece of cake called "Chocolate Coma" (the name says it all) or a slice of apple caramel pie. Their cakes or pies are also available as take-home treats, too. Aurora Grill: 329 Savannah Road. Open at 5 a.m. Serving breakfast and lunch. Call 645-2327 for information.
