tO4 - AIIS GA$TTE, Friday, July $ - July O, lOOi Dixie Carter brings cabaret to Lewes Aug. 8 for Henlopen Theater Project Saturday, Aug. 8. The performance will benefit the Henlopen Theater Project, which will launch its first full summer season of Equity Theater, Dixie Carter will bring her criti- cally acclaimed cabaret straight from New York City's Caf6 Car- lyle to the Little Theatre at Cape Heniopen High School in Lewes featuring professional actors and directors, at the Little Theatre in 1999. Carter, embarking on a nation- wide tour of performing arts cen- ters with her concert/cabaret evening, combines her talents as a singer and comedienne in the show. The "New York Times" calls Carter "A performer who inhabits a song totally while singing it, veering from madcap playfulness one minute to intense, teary-eyed romanticism the next...glam- orous...romantic brilliant...the cabaret world's most elegantly funny cutup." Carter is perhaps most widely known for her seven-year starring role as Julia Sugerbaker on TV's "Designing Women," and appear- ances on "On Our Own," "Out of the Blue," "Filthy Rich" and "Diff'rent Strokes." On stage, Carter starred as Maria Callas in Terrance McNal- ly's award winning play, "Master Class," and performed starring roles in "Names," "A Streetcar Named Desire," "Pal Joey," "Jesse and the Bandit," "A Couple of White Chicks Sitting Around Talking," "Buried Inside Extra," "Taken in Marriage," "Kiss Me Kate," "A Little Night Music," "Mame," "The King and I," "Carousel," "Brigadoon," "Babes in Arms," "Oklahoma," "The Archibald exhibit opens at Blue Moon "Living Color," new paintings by Murray Archibald, are now on display at the Blue Moon, 35 Baltimore Ave., in Re- hoboth Beach. An opening reception will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 4, and the paintings will remain on ex- hibit through the end of July. Carter is on the Henlopen The- ater Project's Distinguished Artists Advisory Board along with her husband, Hal Holbrook. Tickets for Dixie Carter's cabaret are $I00 for the perfor- mance and following gala party, which will feature a European- style caf6 theme.
