CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, July 11 - July 17, 1997 - 29 Sussex Republican Women raise funds Dave Wilson, auctioneer and Register in Chancery, led the live part of the annual Silent Auction and Banquet of the Sussex County Republican Women's Club, held June 18 at the Sussex Pines Coun- try Club in Georgetown. Wilson who makes his living by not being silent, lent his auctioneer's touch to bring fun for all and money into the club's coffers. The proceeds will be used to assist Republican candidates in upcoming elections. Joining Wilson for the evening were fellow county office holders Ray Ellerman, Clerk of Peace Frank Raskauskar, Recorder of Deeds; and Charles Rogers, Reg- ister of Wills. All of the statewide Republican women office holders attended: Janet Rzewnicki, State Treasurer; M. Jane Brady, and Donna Lee Williams, State Insurance Com- missioner: Marlene Elliott was applauded for her election as vice- chairman of the Republican State Committee at the state convention in May. Phyllis Byme of Lewes, chair- woman of the event, assisted Dave Wilson in his auctioneering, and club president Gene Long- heart welcomed everyone and act- ed as emcee for the evening. Past Republican senate candi- dates in the 1984, 1990 and 1996 elections also scored perfect atten- dance with the presence of James Baxter and his wife Ruth; Jane Brady, and Ray Clatworthy and his wife Judy. The invocation was given by Rev. Grace Ruth Batten of Milton. Batten commemorated the four club members who died over the past year. The guest speaker, Edward J. Derwinksi, former.Congressman from Cook County, Ill. was ac- companied by his wife, Bonnie. The day Was a double event for the Derwinskis, who also celebrat- ed their "anniversary.. Derwinski's remarks were well- received by the 100 people in at- tendance. Guest speaker, former Con- gressman Edward J. Children's Beach House offers summer camps Celebrating 61 years, Chil- dren's Beach House recently wel- comed 23 Delaware boys and gifts to its unique, residential summer camp in Lewes. Founded in 1936 by Lydia C. duPont, children ages 6-13 attend in two four-week ses- sions, enjoying full days of ach- front and craft activities and re- ceiving speech and language ther- apies for their special needs. Also, a staff therapist provides individ- ual and small group guidance to promote positive peer interactions and self-esteem. The program is fully-accredited by the American Camping Association. In addition to the summer camp, during the school year Children's Beach House provides environmental ed- ucation in a field-trip program geared toward children with spe- cial needs.
