New sunbeds shine at Electric Beach opening By Rosanne Pack Clouds and rain might spoil a day on the beach, but unless someone pulls the plug, the sun al- ways shines on Electric Beach: The new tanning salon features a tropical atmosphere and hours that serve the working tanner who spends most of the daylight hours making a living. Owners Mitch Sames and Greg Kellas are among the people who find much of their, summer sun time busy wit5 business. Opening a tanning salon has been in the back of their minds for some time as they lifted and clipped and combed dogs in their first busi- ness, Animal House. A brilliantly col- ored wall mural shows exotic blossoms, parrots in proud plumage and leaves and fronds in shades of green, all surrounding a stream deep in the tropical jungle. The mural is the creation of Heather W. Simpson. The partners explain that they wanted to make their location bright and welcoming, and they carry out the tropical theme with large palm frond fans and wicker furniture. Starting soon, there will be a trained, certi- fied massage therapist available for appointments; and a technician will be on staff for manicures, and pedicures. Customers can take their chances on walking in and catch- ing a tanning bed open without an appointment, however, appoint- ments are required for a therapeu- tic massage or manicure.
