CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, July 11 - July 17, 1997 - 81 Quick Hitters By Dave Frederick STAND BY YOUR MAN- The great local sportsman and quail hunter Ralph Short is the proud owner of nine English Set- ter puppies. "I have the mother, father and rich uncle," Ralph said. "These dogs are high class. They were born to hunt birds." When Ralph let all nine puppies out of the kennel, the first thing they did was attack the bare feet of the photographer, nippingat insteps and ankles with their razor sharp little teeth. Ralph had an old sweat sock attached to a fishing line and three times a day he teaches the dogs to stand, which is an instinct that must be cultivated by an ex- perienced handler like Ralph Short. The dogs are for sale and may be had for about $300. "Don't wait for the Quail Unlimit- ed dinner because it may be too late." Hurry While Sup)lies .ast n July.
