CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, July 14 - July 20, 2000 - 79 New York Comedy Club brings Las V egas glitz to Rehoboth plained. Other reviews have noted that Lombardi, in an intimate setting such as the Atlantic Sands, gives the audience the opportunity to observe "Gemini's" unique brand of entertainment from only a few feet away. He is said to combine the most up-to-date illusions with the fast pace of comedy to create a dynamic, visual powerhouse show, which includes at times, live doves, rabbits, and even a touch of fire. The reason Lombardi chose the Atlantic Sands - and it chose him - was due to the fact the hotel is in the process of major renovations as it will soon become the largest, most modern hotel on the Re- hoboth Beach Boardwalk. "The manager wanted me at the hotel so that the patrons could laugh while the renovations are underway," Lombardi noted, even though the Boardwalk side swim- ming pool and most other ameni- ties are business-as-usual. Because Lombardi is so en- thralled with his own two chil- dren, Sabrina, age 5, and Miguel, age 2, as well as wife Philomena, he has dedicated every Thursday evening at the Atlantic Sands to free magic shows at 7 p.m., for all children, having kicked off the first show, on July 13, to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation. All summer long, children can streets of New York City, in Cen- tral Park, as a ventriloquist during my lunch hour while working for NBC, and I was asked to entertain in local clubs, so I've been a full- time entertainer for 12 years," Lombardi explained. Those scouts saw bright prom- ise combined with energetic talent and since then, "Gemini" Lom- bardi has been entertaining and amazing audiences across the country and abroad, including stints in Las Vegas, the Palladium, Atlantic City, Rome and Aruba, as he builds up his reputation as the "Maestro of Magic and Laugh- ter." His comic routines have also appeared at the Comic Strip, Im- prov and Icehouse in Los Ange- les. Of his show at the Comedy Stop at TropWorld in Atlantic City, critics said "everything about Gemini and his show is a cut above fantasy. His magic, his jokes, the way he reads the audi- ence easier than a front page headline. Because of his unique style of showmanship, he not only keeps the show in motion with his jokes, he has several magic sets as well." An accomplished ventrilo- quist with several "friends," he keeps audiences in the palm of his hand. "What you laugh at, well, that's comedy. What you don't, well, that's the magic," Lombardi ex- Sunday Nights R&R P , :00ta rta ttco .C:C3 '$3 573 ES :};; EIRSI & BAIIIMOI,I AVE., RIII()BOIII BEXCII 227-9255 FREStt SEAFOOD HANDCUT STEAKS Early Bird Specials Daily 4:30 - 6:00 20% OFF Entire Check Kids $1 Pasta OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK Patio Seating Available Restaurant & Retailers Drink Specials * 1/2 price sandwiches ;2 & burgers DJ Vic turns it loose with today's hits. t take in the magic show free of charge every Thursday at 7 p.m., participating in the acts, which will feature live animals. That show is followed by the Comedy Blast at 9 p.m. On Fridays at 9 p.m., The New York Comedy Club features Com- edy on the Lighter Side, for ages 17 and up, which is a lighter ver- sion of the usual show. On Saturdays, there are two shows nightly, with the 7 p.m. show a repeat of the magic and comedy of Gemini, with live ani- mals and audience participation for kids of all ages. The late night show at 9 p.m., is for adults only, featuring comedy and magic at its best. The Sunday night shows, at 8 p.m., are titled Up Front and Per- sonal, with closeup magic, while that show is also repeated on Monday evenings at 9 p.m., fea- turing uncensored comedy. Lombardi noted that all Re- hoboth Beach employees are in- vited to the Monday evening shows free of charge, with half price drinks and a "funniest per- son" contest. Also on board is Adrian, a stand-up comedian from Florida, who offers a high energy, strange, character-driven performance, full of improvisation, parody and original comedy. Once a little Brooklyn boy with big dreams, Lombardi, a.k.a. Gemini, has launched his own act for the summer season, having done one-night-stands at the now defunct Irish Eyes Pub in Re- hoboth Beach and at a couple of locations in Ocean City, Md., over the past eight years. "I want to bring real Las Vegas- style entertaining to Rehoboth Beach," said the intense but sen- sitive entertainer.
