26 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, July 28 - Aug. 3, 2000 Neal Bessen photo NARFE Chapter 1690 hosts Beebe CEO Jeffrey Fried The National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1690 hosted Beebe Medical Center CEO Jeffrey Fried during its July 19 meeting at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach. Fried gave the group an update on new hospital facilities and the growth of the institution, as well as the number of new doctors coming onto the staff. Shown during the meeting are (lor) Lois Titus, secretary; Bill Holman, second vice president; Irene Holt, president; Fried, and Jon Emrick, first vice president. Broadkiln VFW Post ladies auxiliary meet The Broadkiln VFW Post 6984 ladieg auxiliary held its monthly meeting July 17, Newly elected president Connie White presided over the meeting during which reports were given and projects put into motion. Three new trustees were elected to fill chairs of elected and inac- tive members. The new trustees are Gladys Wilkins, one year; Gail Walcott, two years; and Sallie Patsy Wells, three years. In other business, the organiza- tion: • reminded members that dues needs to be paid in order to re- ceive monetary awards; • announced that it will accept donations for a drawing for a Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag 12 gauge pump gun with proceeds benefit- ing auxiliary treasury for dona- tions; a Longaberger basket with liner and lid with proceeds going toward the cancer fund; Both drawings will" be held Sept. 4; • announced that a school of in- struction will be held Sept. 9; a council of administration meeting will be held Sept. I I at Legisla- tive Hall in Dover and District 4 president Aileen Timmons will make her official visit on Sept. 17 at Post 6984. Department presi- dent Pat Robbins has tentatively set Oct. 16 as the date for her offi- cial visit; and • set the next meeting for 7:30 p.m., Aug. 2 I. The Senior Singles Mingle is a club for people 50 and older who are widowed, divorced or single, whose purpose is to promote and establish friendships. Member- ship is $6 per year and new mem- ber..s may attend the first meeting gratis. Activities are restricted to paid members only.
