This theme associates the popu- larity of sports and the unfortu- nate escalating- number of sports and recreation-related injuries. While nearly i million children are treated in emergency rooms every year for sports injuries, half of these injuries can be prevented. To help kids learn to play safe, this year's Safe Kids Day, with support from the National Athletic Trainers' Association, begins a major sports injury prevention ini- tiative. The objective is to better educate parents and caregivers about keeping their young athletes safe. The-event will include interac- tive exhibits and demonstrations, as well as puppet shows, cos- tumed characters, speakers and more. The event is sponsored by the Uni'cersity of Delaware Coopera- tive Extension and the Delaware Safe Kids Coalition.
