74 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, July 28 - Aug. 3, 2000 TV, Broadway stars to fight up Cape High stage Aug. 2.6 The Henlopen Theater Project (HTP) has quite a stellar line-up for its final production of the sum- mer season, the Delaxvare premier of A. R. Gurney&apos;s "'Ancestral Voices:" Staning in this touching and often funny story of a grand- mother x ho leax es her husband to marry his best friend in 1940s Buffalo. N.Y.. are Sada Thompson and Len Cariou. Both of these amazing talents have r6sum6s that are a mile long. Thompson is best rernembered as the matriarch in the late 70s groundbreaking television series "'Family." It was one of the first nighttime soap-style se- ries that dealt with many taboo issues of the day. Thompson won an Emmy THOMPSON award for her portrayal of Kate Marshall. She won another Emmy for her per- formance as Carla's mother in "'Cheers." She as also scored ac- colades and received awards for her stage work. including a Tony award. Len Cariou, whom most :f,,... will remember fi'om his guest starring role on "'Murder She Wrote," work- CARIOU ing with his former costar of the Broadway musical "Sweeney Todd," Angela Lansbury. Cariou won the Tony for his performance of the title role in the Stephen Sondheim mu- sical. That performance is consid- ered part of theater legend. Cariou has also appeared in several other musicals, including Sondheim's "A Little Night Music," (and recreated his role in the film ver- sion opposite Elizabeth Taylor). He costarred with the legendary Lauren Bacall in the musical "Ap- plause." Cariou will be returning to Broadway this fall in Neil Si- mon's new comedy, "The Dinner Party." Cariou's film roles include "The Four Seasons" with Alan Al- da and Carol Burnett and the ac- tion thriller "Executive Deci- sion." Joining Thompson and Cariou will be Bruce Davison, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the film "Long Time Companion" and who'can currently be seen in the summer blockbuster "X-Men.'" Davison's long career has spanned Broadway and off- Broadway and many films, in- cluding "The Crucible," "'Short Cuts." for which he earned a Golden Globe award; and the cult Rounding out the cast will be David Aaron Baker, who will recreate the role he originated in the Broadway production of "An- cestral Voices." Baker has ap- peared on and off Broadway in- cluding the musical "Once Upon a Mattress." He has appeared in classic"Willard."Davisonstarred several TV series including in the TV series "Harry and the "Frasier,""Sex in the City,""Spin Hendersons." Continued on page 75 'Two Gentlemen' continues at Cape Ready to laugh at the comic misadventures of two pair of mismatched lovers, a clown and his dog? Then head over to the Little Theater in Cape Henlopen High School where the National Players of Olney Theater will present William Shakespeare's "Two Gentlemen of Verona" through July 30. The production is sponsored by the Henlopen Theater Pro- ject and the east includes several HTP alumni who appeared in last year's production of "As You Like It." "Two Gentlemen of Verona" is directed by Olney artistic di- rector and seasonal Rehoboth resident Jim Petosa. Tickets range in price from $8 for students, $12 for weekday shows and $17 for weekend performances. HTP is also offering free Shakespeare workshops for stu- dents and adults.
