CAPE GAZETYE, Friday, August 1 - August 7, 1997 - 23 Sussex woman scores in CHEER campaign 50/50 raffle Shelly Cox of Ocean View and their last $30 earlier this month her husband Gene, were dovn to when they decided to take a few EER Shelly Cox, of Ocean View, with CHEER's deputy director, Richard Harper, left, and Charlene Hubert, right. meetings to acquaint themselves with the program. To be eligible, students must maintain at least a C average, and the annual dues are $36. Uniforms and materials are provided free of charge. Meetings are at 7 p.m. each Thursday, and they are at the Georgetown Air Park. For information, Clark will take calls at 945-1555. The Civil Air Patrol is also listed in the phone book and on the internet. "Once you join, it's all available to you, flying, boot camps, bivuoacs, ranger school, even pic- nics. You join, from there on, you decide your future," Clark said. "I'm learning as I go; my mind is just full." Continued from page 22 school, and then attending college in a military program. His in- volvement in CAP will allow him to enter whichever branch of the military he chooses at a higher rank than those without the expe- rience. The young cadet commander hopes his enthusiasm and that of his friends (kids and adults) in the program will attract more atten- tion and membership in southern Delaware. Those 12-years-of-age and up are invited to attend three BlazingHot... Blazer Sale! Limited Time $9999 31 Rehoboth Avenue Open Daily 227-7990 hours off and go to the Sussex County Fair. Shelly saw the CHEER sign, and on impulse, decided to invest $5 in a 50-50 raffle being con- ducted by Sussex County Senior Services, Inc. "The next day when we got the call that we'd won, I had to hand the phone to Gene," said Shelly. "I was so choked up I couldn't talk." They had won $1,375.50. "Twelve hundred dollars went right out to pay back rent," she said. "It took away a lot of the pressure." She said her husband does re- pairs on commercial and residen- tial appliances, such as refrigera- tors, stoves and air conditioners (Gene Cox Service, 539-0582). Payments from some customers have been late. "We've got five children - aged from 27 to 12. There were plenty of bills to pay, but no money com- ing in," said Shelly. "The cash couldn't have come at a better time." Shelly said she didn't mind spending five of her last $30 on CHEER because, "I like the work they' re doing. A neighbor of mine is 79 and he's visited regularly by someone from CHEER Home Services," she said. "I wish there was some similar service in Lancaster where my mother lives. It would make life a little easier for her." She said she and her husband appreciate winning a raffle, but believe the answer to their prob- lems will come through hard work and "the power of prayer." CHEER's share of the 50-50 raffle goes toward a new Multi- Purpose Community and Adult Day Care Center in Georgetown. "The Capital Campaign Com- mittee thanks everyone for the time and'effort that made this raf- fle a success," said Charlene Hu- bert, Capital Campaign Coordina- tor. 1 LARGE RESIDENTIAL : Building Site In "THE WOODS ON HERRING CREEK" LOT # 70 "HOLLY CIRCLE" Just Off 279 Near Angola, Delaware SAT.
