Barr's sudden death chip shot
birdie secures RBCC golf title
Rehoboth Beach Country Club
recently announced the results of
the 1997 Club Championship,
which took place July 26 and 27.
In the Championship Flight
(handicaps 3.2-8.2), Jim Barr (77-
74, 151) and Pete Townsend (72-
79, 151) were tied after 36 holes,
and a sudden death play-off was
necessary to determine the 1997
RBCC Club Championship.
Barr claimed the title when he
chipped in his third shot for a
birdie three on the first playoff
hole.
Barr won the championship
coming from the 1st Flight, mark-
ing the first time in the history of
the club that this rare feat oc-
curred.
Taking third place honors was
Bruce Bogart (73-79, 152); fol-
lowed by Randy Kenworthy, 78-
81, 159; Lee Weber, 84-75, 159;
Frank Shuman (77-83, 160); and
Ralph Bogart (80-81,161).
Senior- Senior Division Low
Gross champion was Ralph Boga-
rt (80-81, 161) followed by Don
Harris (83-81,163).
Walt Ellis (65-70, 135) took
first in the Senior - Senior Divi-
sion Low Net, followed by Bill
Hill (64-73, 137); Lou Winkler,
(70-69, 139); Buck Thompson
(66-63, 139); Frank Abbott (67-
74, 141); Bill Dill (68-74, 142);
Jack Guenveur (69-74, 143); Ross
Adams (72-72, 144); Tom Manfu-
so (72-72, 144).
In the Seniors Division, Randy
Kenworthy (78-81, 159) was
champion in the Low Gross, and
Frank Shuman (77-83, 160) was
second. In the Low Net for the
same division, the champion was
Don Zeigler (69-65, 134), fol-
lowed by Ed Bennett (69-70,
139); Bob Tigani (71-70, 141);
and Walt Wagamon (70-72, 142).
In the 4th Flight (handicaps
19.8-30.9), Lou Winkler was the
champion (94-93, 187) and Frank
Abbott (93-100, 193) was the run-
ner up. Taking third place was
Harold Bennett (105-93, 197); fol-
lowed by Boots Campbell (100-
98, 198); Bill Regardie (104-98,
202); Jim Beebe (100-104, 204)
and Warren Allen (104-103, 207).
In the 3rd Flight (handicaps
17.0 - 19.3), the winner was Ed
Bennett (90-91, 181); with John
Fleming (91-92, 183) coming in
second place. In third place was
Jack Guenveur (90-95, 185); fol-
lowed by Tom Manfuso (93-93,
186); Charles Forbes (92-95,
187); Walter Hatz, (91-97, 188);
Jim Guandolo 97-91,188).
In the 2nd Flight (handicaps
12.2 - 16.4), Walt Ellis (81-86,
167) took the number one spot,
with Don Ziegler (86-82, 168) in
second place. Buck Thompson
(82-89, 171) took third place, fol-
lowed by Bill Hill (82-91, 173);
Bill Dill (84-90, 174); Warren
Hardy (89-90, 175); and Don Orr
(86-90, 176).
Don Harris (83-81, 164) edged
out Smart Outten (81-83, 164) in a
play-off in the 1st Flight (handi-
caps 8.5-11.9). In third place was
Bob Nardone (86-83, 169); fol-
lowed by Bob Tigani (85-84,
169); Walt Wagamon (84-86,
170); Orville Basinski (87-84,
171); and Jerome Powell (83-89,
172).
Braves win Rehoboth Little League Major League title
Hazzard's Big A Braves won the Rehoboth Beach Little League Major League Championship
this year finishing the season with an 11-2 record. The team also won the play-offs to be the
