56- CAPE GAZE[FE, Friday, August 5, A11,'i994 UDiResearch and Education Center to host Farm and Home Field Day Aug. 10 tion Tour and Paulownia Demon- stration will depart the grove at 9 and 11 a.m. (Paulownia is a fast-growing tree which may have a place as an alternative income for hard-to- farm areas.) "Agriculture's Impact on You" is the theme of Farm and Home Field Day 1994, set for 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10 at the University of Delaware Re- search and Education Center, Rt. 9, west of Georgetown. The day's events will include field tours and demonstrations, a computer expo, lawn and garden expo, landscape displays, 4-H farm animal displays, heritage dis- plays, consumer programs, farm health and safety for children, and the 1890s Town Ball, which is the 19th Century forerunner of base- ball. The computer expo, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., features the latest com- puter software technology and demonstrations at 20-minute in- tervals highlighting electronic in- formation available to Delawar- cans with computers and modems, as well as software for long-range financial planning and field histo- ry record keep!ng. Wagons will depart from the commercial no-till drill exhibit area located behind the pesticide storage and handling facility from :30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Agro- nomic and Vegetable Field Tours, while the Wildlife and Conserva- Commercial demonstrations of new advances in minimum and no-till grain drills will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the field tour loading area, while the lawn and garden expo will take place west of the grove near the greenhouse. This program features the latest management practices, new equipment and varieties available for home lawn and garden estab- lishment and maintenance, includ- ing raised garden beds, herbs and compost. A sick plant clinic will take place and there will be landscap- ing demonstrations.
