cape Gazette CAPE LIFE TUESDAY, AUGUST 5- THURSDAY, AUGUST 7, 2008 119 Obituaries )) Continued from page 18 Helen McMenamin Hill, gospel choir singer Helen McMenamin Hill, 86, of Rehoboth Beach, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at her daughter's home in Newark, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Hill was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pa., daugh- ter of the late Thomas and Tere- sa Maher McMenamin. Although Helen was born in Philadelphia, she moved as a teenager to Wilmington, where she at- tended P.S. DuPont High School. She Helen Hill married her late husband, E. Vernon Hill Jr., at the age of 19 and enjoyed a long and happy marriage until his death in 1995. Upon his retirement, they moved to the Lewes area where she be- came very active the Cape Hen- lopen Senior Center. She even learned to sign and tap dance. She took much joy in singing with the Cape Heniopen Gospel Choir. For many years, Helen served as a eucharistic minister at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, Lewes, and as a volun- teer at Beebe Medical Center. Helen moved to Brandywine Assisted Living in Rehoboth Beach in 2005 and greatly en- joyed the friends and staff she met there. She was quite a fash- ion plate and had great fun play- ing "Fanny the Flirt" in a recent skit at Brandywine. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Teresa Hard- ing; and two brothers, Norman McMenamin and Thomas Mc- Menamin. She is survived byher son, Ed- ward V. Hill ]1:. and his wife Leigh of Lewes; three daughters, Mary Ellen Sheppard and her husband Charles of Lewes, Merle Jean Slack and her husband John of Newark. and Joanne Ziemer and her husband Jeff of Punta Gorda, Fla.; two granddaughters, Kirsten Hill Anderson and her husband John of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jenny Sheppard Murphy and her hus- band Chuck of Millsboro; three grandsons, Christopher Hill and his wife Roxanne of New York City, Charles W. Sheppard Jr. and his wife ]elm of Middletown, and Jay Ziemer and his wife Lanelle of St. Cloud, Fla.; eight great- grandchildren; a sister, Peggy Harvell of DalLas, Texas; a broth- er-in-law, Theodore Hill of Clay- mont; and a sister-in-law, Lydia Baird of Claymont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am., Wednes- day, Aug, 6, at St. Jude The Aims- fie Church, Route1, north of Five Points, Lewes. Friends may call at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be at 1 p.m., Fri- day, Aug. 8, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesa- peake City Road, Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Delaware Hu- mane Society, 701 A St., Wilming- ton, DE 19713 or to the Cape Hen- lopen Senior Center, U Christian St., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Arrangements are being han- dled by Parsell Funeral Enter- prises Inc., Lewes. Albert J. Menchey Jr,, Rehoboth resident Albert J. Menchey Jr., 78, of Re- hoboth Beach, passed away Sat- urday, July 26, 2008, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. He was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Albert J. and Mary Christine Young Menchey. Mr. Menchey is survived by his wife, Phyllis E. Stickler Menchey; two daughters, Diane Harp and her husband David of Hunting- don Valley, Pa., and Michele Ski- bo and her husband Chuck of Wainutport, Pa.; five grandchil- dren, David James, Karen, Colleen, Steven and Matthew Harp. The family would like to ex- tend a special thank you to Drs. Peri and Sordi and Harbor Healthcare & Rehab Center for the care they provided to Mr. MencheY. All s&'vices and burial will be held in Pennsylvania and will be private.
