Foundation president Robert Trapani Jr. said the next major task on the group's work schedule is repair and painting of the light's flaring black metal base. Because of extensive rust and deterioration, work must be com- pleted before winter in order to protect the metal plates that turn USS Saint Paul Association sets reunion The USS Saint Paul (CA-73) and the USS Minneapolis-Saint Paul (SSN-708) Association will hold its 1 lth reunion in Boston, Mass. Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse has 67 steps spiraling up from its concrete foundation to the watch room just below the light. Each step is available for a $100 contribution to the founda- tion. Another seven steps lead from the watch room to the lantern room that houses the light itself. These steps can be sponsored for $250 each. Names of step sponsors will be inscribed on plaques displayed in the stairways. Contributions are also fully tax deductible. Lighthouse preservation is a perpetual challenge that is very costly," Trapani said. "We hope the public will join us in this work by making an investment in this piece of Delaware Bay history." DRBLF leased Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse from the U.S. Coast Guard in 2002 and began restoration work immediately. In June 2003, the foundation opened the light for guided tours. The tour schedule sold out im- mediately and plans are underway for a more extensive schedule next summer.
