28 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, August 14 - August 20, 1998 Church Notes Houses of Worship UUSD to explore the blues on Aug. 16 The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD) will host the Rev. Kent Matthies for an exploration oftbe blues, both the musical form and the feeling, as he leads the at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 16 worship service at Lewes Middle School on Savannah Road. The musical form of the blues serves as one of the most powerful cultural American influences. The roots are universal feelings of sadness and loneliness. In his sermon, "Singing the Blues," Matthies will address how we as individuals and as a religious community can explore the blues, how we accompany each other and how we sing the blues. Matthies serves as the coordinator for the Joseph Priestley District&apos;s Campus Ministry Program for Unitarian Universalists, which supports partnerships between churches and campus groups all across the region. A former Witness for Peace in Chiapas, Mexico, Matthies recently graduated from Meadville/Lombard Theological School and was ordained on May 17. Outdoor Bethel Camp Meeting set Aug. 15.23 The 16th annual Outdoor Bethel Camp Meeting will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church, three miles south of Gumboro on Bethel Road, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday - Sunday, Aug. 15-23. Everyone should bring their own lawn chair, with food served nightly prior to the service, except on Sundays.
