The following movies are now playing in the resort area: How Stella Got Her Groove Back: Readers of the Terry McMillan book can hardly wait to get to the theater to see this screen adaptation, which stars Whoopi Goldberg and Angela "What&apos;s Love Got To Do With It?" Bas- sett, Stella's a love-starved woman who meets a swinging younger guy while on vacation. Rated R. The Avengers: Another eampy,TV-show-turned-movie film with Ralph Fiennes, Urea Thurman and Scan Connery signed on to play the big screen versions of the secret agents. The movie features an impressive Web site, though, at <www.the- avengers.corn>. Rated PG-13. Air Bud 2: Golden Receiv- er: It seems America just can,t get enough of that adorable, ath- letic pooch who, as luck would have it, is now not only a basket- ball star like in the fast movie, but a football hero as well. Also fea- tures Kevin Zegers and Nora Dunn. Rated G. Snake Eyes: A Nicholas Possums set auditions for fall production The Possum Point Players have scheduled auditions at 7 p.m, Fri- day, Aug. 21, and at 10 a.m., Sat- urday, Aug. 22, for its fall pro, duction of ,George Washington Slept Here," The auditions will be held in the old railroad station in Georgetown in the same building as the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, 200 Depot Street. "George Washington Slept Here" is a funny story about a man who purchases his dream house, "site" unseen and his fam- ily's situations that devebp once they have relocated to Pennsylva- nia. The Negotiator: Chicago's two top negotiators, played by Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey, face off against each oth- er. While one is holding hostages, the other is demanding surrender. Rated R. Ever After: A Cinderella Story: An updated version of the mother-of-all fairy tales, this yam. features ingenues Drew Barry- more and Angelica Huston. Slightly reminiscent of Leo Di- Caprio's "Romeo and Juliet" re- vamp, "Ever After" has a snappy, Generation X soundtraek, lots of cleavage and plenty of romance and mystery. Rated PG-13. The Parent Trap: A remake of the Disney film about impish twins who pose as matchmakers for their unhappily divorced par- ents, played by Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson. Rated PG. Saving Private Ryan: Giv- be cast are one boy between the ages of 16 and 25; eight men be- tween the ages of 25 and 60; and eight women between the ages of 25 and 60. The Mask of Zorro: A swashbuckling Antonio Banderas learns the tricks of the trade from his master, Anthony Hopkins, and earns the affections of a raven- haired Catherine Zeta-Jones in the process. Rated PG-13. There's Something About Mary: Cameron:Diaz, Matt Dil- lon, Chris Elliott, Ben Stiller, Lee Evans and Helena Christensen bumble their way through a messy romantic comedy. The movie's already been touted as the '90s spin on "Fast Times at Ridgemont High." Rated R. Lethal Weapon 4: Mel Gib- son and Danny Gtover team up again as a pair of cops hunted by a band of bloodthirsty mercenaries. Also stars Rene Russo and Joe Pesci. Rated R. Armageddon - An asteroid the size of Texas is expected to hit earth and it's up to Ben Affleck, Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thor- ton to save us. Directed by Michael Bay, the long-awaited summer movie also features Liv Tyler as Affleck's love interest.
