Kerry Kester photo Cathell family honored for Camp Barnes support Members of the Delaware State Police presented a plaque to Charlie Cathell, owner of the Delaware International Speedway, on Thursday, Aug. 7 at Camp Barnes. Twenty-five years ago, Cathell's father - William, began a partnership with the state police to raise funds for Camp Barnes, a police-sponsored summer camp initiated in 1947 to combat juvenile delin- quency. The camp offers traditional as well as special programs for children ages 10 1/2 to 13 1/2, with the ultimate goal being to provide campers with personal motivation, self confidence and the skills to cope with an ever challenging society. The camp is free for qualifying children. The Cathell family offered proceeds from a special stock car race, this year held July 17, to support the camp. Volunteerism is at the heart of the race's success, and according to Cpl. Preston Lewis, race coordinator, approximately 80 per- cent of CatheH's employees donate their paycheck to Camp Barnes the night of the race. The plaque Lewis presented to Cathell reads as follows: =In appreciation for 25 years of continued support, generosity and friendship that has greatly contributed to the success of the Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race." Many Cathell family members gathered for the special trib- ute at Camp Barnes. Shown (l-r) are Cpl. Autograpk e:d bid on People People's Place in Milford will hold its Third Annual Sunset Cruise on Saturday, Aug. 23. The S.S. Lewes Princess will set sail from the docks of Fisherman's Wharf at 6:30 p.m., located on Sa- vannah and Anglers Road in Lewes. There will be catering by the Lighthouse Restaurant in Lewes, live entertainment by "The Rogues with Brogues," door prizes and a silent auction. Items that will be up for bid are: an autographed football and picture signed by Superbowl champion Reggie White, an auto- graphed football by the Eagle's Rodney Peete, Philadelphia Phillies game tickets and other great items donated by local mer- ootball up "or s Place cruise chants. The public is invited for an evening of fun and an all-you-can- eat buffet aboard the Lewes Princess for a donation of $30. All proceeds will benefit Peo- ple's Place programs. People's Place is a non-profit organization providing services to families arid individuals in Kent and Sussex Counties. Services provided by People's Place include drug and alcohol counseling, shelter and case man- agement for the homeless and vic- tims of family violence.
