Lankford, Georgetown homemaker Maggie E. "Margaret" Lank- ford, age 9 l, of Georgetown, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997 of heart failure at the Harrison House of Georgetown. Mrs. Lankford was a homemak- er. She played the piano for Cokesbury Methodist Church in Georgetown. She was a member of Georgetown Wesleyan Church but attended Bethesda United Methodist Church with her son and his family. Mrs. Lankford was also a member of the Georgetown CHEER Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman E., in 1974. She is survived by a son, Richard St. of Georgetown; three grandsons, Richard Lankford Jr. of Georgetown, Michael Lankford of Seaford and Keith Lankford of Bridgeville; three step-grandchil- dren, Karen Reed and David Reed, both of Angola Beach and Bill Reed, stationed in Germany in the Air Force; five great-grand- children and five step great-grand- children. Services were held at the Dodd- Carey Chapel of Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, George- town, with burial in Cokesbury Cemetery, Georgetown. Contributions are suggested to the Georgetown Wesleyan Church, 620 N. Bedford Street, Georgetown or Bethesda United Methodist Church, Road 326, Georgetown. John Erling Nilssen, former Lewes resident John Erling Nilssen, age 46, of ' Minneapolis, Minn., died Sunday, July 20, 1997, of a heart attack at home. Mr. Nilssen lived in Lewes until 1989 when he moved to Min- neapolis. He was a 1969 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School and attended Fort Schyler Mar- itime Academy in the Bronx, N.Y. He was an eight-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Nilssen of Minneapolis; two sisters, Estelle Forcelle of Minneapolis and Evelyn Benson of Smithfield, Va.; and a brother, Per Erik Nilssen of Norway. Services were held at Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Lewes. John Michael Melvin, photographer, waRer John Michael Melvin, age 34, of Bethany Beach, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997, of injuries sustained in an auto accident. Mr. Melvin was a free lance and commercial photographer for var- ious magazine and newspapers. He also worked as a waiter at Cloud 9 Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach since March of this year. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Crofton, Md., and also attended both All Saints Episcopal Church, Rehoboth Beach and St. Martha's Episcopal Church, Bethany Beach. While in high school, he partici- pated in scholastic gymnastics. Mr. Melvin is survived by his parents, Lloyd "Mike" L. and Mary Loeffler Melvin of Ocean View; a sister, Carol DuVal of Gaithersburg, Md.; and two brothers, Michael E. of Rockville, Md. and Stephen L. of Bethany Beach. A memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church with bur- ial private. Contributions are suggested to the Witman Walker Clinic, Devel- opment Department, 1407 S Street NW, Washington, DC 20009. Edward S. Zwolski, mechanical engineer Edward S. Zwolski, age 72, of Rehoboth Beach, and formerly of Yonkers, N.Y., died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997, of acute myocardial infarction at Beebe Medical Cen- ter, Lewes. Mr. Zwolski was a mechanical engineer with the Otis Elevator Company in Yonkers. He was a member of St. Edmond's Catholic Church, and was an Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Lil- lian Fuhrman Zwolski; a son, Kenneth of Lake Peekskill, N.Y.; a daughter, Diane McGinnis of Freehold, N.J. and three grand- children. A memorial Mass was held at St. Edmond's Catholic Church with burial private. Merrill E. Brittingham, equipment operator Merrill E. Brittingham, age 67, of Smyrna, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997, of heart failure at Kent General Hospital. Mr. Brittingham worked as a heavy equipment operator for George and Lynch Construction Company for 41 years. He was a life member and a member of the board of directors of Citizen's Hose Company #1 in Smyrna, and a member of the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Glo- ria Green Brittingham; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Ken- ny Chadwick of Clayton; two brothers, Alvin of Camden- Wyoming and Robert of Smyrna; two sisters, Helen Hudson and Hazel Rochester, both of Smyrna and a granddaughter, Meryle Lee Chadwick of Clayton. Services were held in the Faries Funeral Home, Smyrna, with bur- ial in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. Contributions are suggested to Citizens Hose Company #1, P.O. Box 97, Smyrna, DE 19977 Walter A.
