56- C]PE GAZETI, Friday, August 15- August 2i, 1997 Roeanne Pack phot DEC hosts annual members dinner Approximately 3,000 gathered for the 61st annual Delaware Electric Cooperative membership meeting recently set at Lake Forest High School. Almost 800 of those attending are members of the non-profit utility, and credits to be disbursed this year were just shy of $1 million. The board member elec- tion included District 9 candidate Albert H. Lank, Milton and at-large candidate Betty J. Benson of Milton; Richard Frazer of Long Neck and John N. Sparks, Jr. of Fenwick are also board members. The evening drew elected officials and dis- plays from a variety of area hospitals, health organizations and non-profit agencies. At top, Sen. William Roth tops off a busy day as he greets members at the meeting and chicken dinner Tuesday, Aug. 5. The Delaware senator rushed back to Lake Forest High School in Felton for the meeting after a morning trip to Wash- ington, D.C. where he witnessed the signing of the balanced budget bill and a tax bill that will provide tax credits and re- ductions in capital gains. As chair of the Senate Finance Com- mittee, Roth has long pushed for the landmark legislation. Speaking to more than 3,000 at the cooperative meeting, he said that the new laws are the result of a truly bi-partisan ef- fort. He joined other state elected officials in sampling and serving the traditional chicken dinner held each year before the DEC business meeting. At center, before the business meeting of the cooperative, Delaware Rep. Michael Castle serves on the dinner line. Ben Betts of Frederica willingly ac- cepts a plate full of Delmarvelous chicken. The annual dinner is always a family affair, and below, Slaughter Neck residents LaToria Ellis (1) and Monique Cooper enjoy a night out. Sea Horse Continued from page 55 "It is a terrific piece of proper- ty," Stein added. The Sea Horse Restaurant was purchased by Wilmington Trust in July following months of legal maneuvering. Wilmington Trust was considered the principal cred- itor of the restaurant and a sale to Wilmington Trust for $1.9 million was allowed last month, accord- ing to Mark Minuti of the Wilm- ington based law firm Saul, Ew- ing, Remick and Saul. Minuti rep- resented Michael Kaliner, a Bucks County, Pa., attorney who was ap- pointed the trustee for the well- known restaurant. During the legal proceedings, the Sea Horse has remained open for business and patrons have no- ticed little, if any, difference in the popular restaurant. Stein said in July that he was potentially interested in the prop- erty and a purchase from Wilm- ington Trust was a possibility. On August 8, Stein confirmed the purchase.
