"Grandpa's Garden" on Bradley Lane includes a fence hung with bags of garlic to ward off marauding deer. Lewes Homeowners pick Beauty Spots The Lewes Homeowners Asso- ciation recently awarded its sec- ond series of Beauty Spot Awards for the summer of 1996. The selections are from a vari- ety of places around town and of- fer a good opportunity to get on some streets that folks might not otherwise travel. Nina Cannata, president of Lewes Homeowners Association, had the following comments about the selections in the most recent series: 8 MILTON AVE., LEWES BEACH - "Wide variety of beach grasses, corn flowers, crepe myr- tle, day lilies, coreopsis and mag- nolia. The care and long-term planning of the garden are evident and a real pleasure to see on the beach side. It's quiet and contem- plative. The neighbor's place was nice too and he had a large veggie garden in the back. Maybe next time for him." 37 MULBERRY STREET, LEWES - "Fronting on Mulberry, the inner court, centered around a lovely River Birch tree, the garden is a riot of zinnias, snapdragons, grasses, liatris, sedums, protulaca, caladiums - to name but a few. The garden, explosion of color, continues around to the side yard and along the fence. It's a lot of fun." 103 BRADLEY LANE, LEWES. "A hidden treasure, showing lots of TLC and lined with garlic! The deer from the nearby woods, being no fools, have raided 'Grandpa's Garden', necessitating a higher fence and plastic baggies filled with crushed garlic as a shield. Inside the gar- lic-festooned fence are rows of corn, raspberries, tomatoes, gladi- oli, roses, peppers, cucumbers and more. Good one to see for your psychic health." (Bradley Lane is a dead-end street at the western end of Third Street - where Third and Queen Anne meet.)
