PATS touchdown at Georgetown Airport def'mite, Sussex officials say By Michael Short PATS is prepared to touch down at the Georgetown Airport. Sussex County reached final agreement with the Maryland company on August 13. That agreement means PATS will es- tablish a facility at the George- town Airport to re-fit corporate jets with new fuel tanks, a busi- ness which could mean as many as 150 new jobs for Sussex Coun- ty. "The business climate in Delaware is excellent. The Delaware Economic Development Office and the Sussex County Economic Development Office have been very suppo/'tive and the state and county governments have invested in an ongoing im- provement program for the air- port," said company president Jack Frost. "PATS, Inc. has a long-term agreement with Boeing to manu- facture and install the extra fuel tanks which will give the BBJ (Boeing Business Jet) its intercon- tinental range. Unlike airline- owned Boeing 737s which have standard interiors, each jet will be configured individually to meet its owner's requirements. When an aircraft is completed at Boeing's Renton, Wash., factory, it will be flown to a PATS facility where the fuel tanks will be installed. The aircraft will then be flown to a Boeing-designated aircraft "com- pletion center" where accessories, radio and navigation systems and interior will be installed," accord- ing to a press release from the company. "These are better paying jobs, higher technology jobs, that can help America and Sussex Coun- ty," Frost said recently. A typical job would pay approx- imately $15 an hour and most of the employees are expected to come from Sussex County. Sussex Technical High School is expected to provide training for the new jobs. Anyone interesting in applying should contact the state's employment office in Georgetown. Part of the negotiations with the county require the company to pay the county per job if the Hum- ber of jobs at the Georgetown site falls below 50. But Frost expects the number of jobs to actually be between 100 and 150. The company will still keep its Columbia, Md., operation, but will simply open a second loca- tion in Georgetown. He described his company as "honorable and hard working." There are 170 jobs at the Mary- land location. Frost said he expects to be a good neighbor and said both the wholesome image and quality of life of Sussex County were factors in doing business here. As ineen- fives, Sussex County has agreed to issue a $2 million industrial rev- enue bond, a $150,000 note from the county's economic develop- ment fund which does not have to be paid back, and a $300,000 loan with an interest rate of six percent. A ribbon cutting is expected in mid-September. Henderson completes brokers license requirements Joyce Henderson of 0'Conor, Piper & Flynn has recently completed all necessary requirements to receive her Delaware Associate Broker's license. Henderson, who is a top-producing associate in the Bethany Beach office, said getting the license had been a top priority. In addition to becoming an associate broker, Henderson is also a Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI) and a Certified Residential Specialist (CRY).
