CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, August 29 - September 4, 1997 - 27 Book bargains at Lewes Library sale Aug. 30 Book lovers of all ages will find bargains galore at the annual Friends of the Lewes Public Library's used-book sale set for Saturday, Aug. 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Library grounds, located on the comer of Kings Highway and Adams Avenue. Among the thousands of books are fiction, non-fiction, first editions, children's favorites, recent best-sell- ers, technical texts and some classics. Buyers will also have the oppor- tunity to buy a specially-designed green canvas tote bag ($12 value) for only $10 with a book purchase of $2 or more. Rain date is Aug. 31. Please Join us for Worship Se00ices New Covenant Presbyterian Church in America" Benefit a success A benefit held at Speed Lackhove's Riverfront Park in Lewes on Sunday, Aug. 24 drew a crowd of fun-loving people for live music, roasted pig, burgers and dogs, a live auction and lots of door prizes. "We're really pleased," said Paula Pepper, one of the or- ganizers. "We raised more than $6,000 which will ,be used to help Connie Barnes pay for some of the medical bills she has from lupus as well as pay some of the expenses of some of our Punkin' Chunkers who want to travel to Illinois in mid-September to compete during their annual pumpkin festival. Back Porch fete set Sept. 1-7 to benefit library The Back Porch Cafe, located at 59 Rehoboth Avenue, will spon- sor a fund raising dinner for the Rehoboth Beach Public Library on Wednesday, Sept. 17. The library is in the midst of a capital campaign to raise $1.2 mil- lion in order to expand its facili- ties to meet the informational, ed- ucational and recreational needs of the community well into the 21 st century. The campaign has been success- ful thus far, generating donations and pledges in excess of $625,000. All profits from the fund-raising evening at the Back Porch Cafe on Sept. 17 will go to- ward this building fund. Dinner will be served from 6 to 10 p.m. and reservations should be made by calling 227-3674. Af- ter 10 p.m., desserts, coffees and cocktails will be available.
