The children enjoyed face painting and were among more than 130 who gathered to put fish, starfish, crabs and other paintings on T-shirts provided for the occasion. Evelyn Vanderloo, a member of the Cape Artists, worked on a watercolor of the Lewes canalfront during the Fifth Annual Waterfront Arts Festival held Sunday, Aug. 24 at the Light- house Restaurant. She was one of several artists who painted and sold works during the event. Even rigorous business trips have time for the Cape Gazette! Leo Medisch, Keith Fitzgerald and Bee Neild, all involved with Rehoboth's Back Porch Cafe, spent three weeks in Thailand in the late fall of 1996 on a rigorous business trip which involved sampling the regional cuisines of the country and absorbing some interesting and exotic local color. They wrote: "The trip covered some 2,000 km from Bangkok to Chiang Mai to Phuket and involved roughly sixty dining experiences (if you include a smattering of American-style break- fasts.) Their host for much of the trip was Siri $vasti, an old friend and formerly a business partner and co-chef with Leo at the Back Porch Car& Siri has been back in his homeland almost three years and has his own television show demon- strating recipes and cooking techniques and has become a successful consultant to several large Thai corporations including Thai Airways. The group is shown here taking a break from eating and catching Siri up on some hometown news from the Cape Gazette as they float around the Andaman Sea off Cape Panwa in Phuket." The Cape Gazette's always in style in the Bahamas Twila Farrell, who owns a ladies clothing store on Second Street in Lewes, traveled to the Bahamas in the fall of 1996 to enjoy some of the balmy Caribbean weather and check up on some of the island fashions that might work in the states. She found that while some styles may come and go, the Cape Gazette is as much in style in the Bahamas as it is in Delaware's Cape Region. I I !
