74 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, August 29 -September 4, 1997 The Rehoboth Beach Christmas Shop is a highlight of the fall season, bringing in a variety of merchants with perfect Christmas gifts and decorations. Rehoboth Christmas Shop returns for 36th year Oct. 9 For the last 35 years the women of All Saints' Episcopal Parish, including St. George's Chapel, have sponsored the Rehoboth Christmas Shop. This year's event, chaired by Anne J. Ra- tledge, will be held at Rehoboth Beach Convention Hall Oct. 9-12. "These annual Columbus week- end event starts everyone thinking about their Christmas buying," Said Ratledge, "and raises over $20,000 to be returned to local and statewide charities in the process as people buy their gifts." A gala preview party will launch the event 0n Thursday, Oct. 9 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Con- vention Hall. The $15 donation in- cludes admission to the show on all days. The hours for the 1997 Christ- mas shop are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 10, and 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10-12. Daily admission is $1 with children under 12 and in the com- pany of an adult admitted free. The three-day event offers a shopper's paradise of items from 18 exhibitors from six states with something for everyone's list. On display will be select women's ap- parel, gourmet edibles, costume jewelry, children's toys and cloth- ing, art treasures, handcrafted jewelry as well as Christmas trees and decorations, and collectors items. Two special raffles Will be held, one featuring a Vermont farm- house dollhouse assembled by Jack De Grange and a quilt of log cabin design in earth tones quilted by Rose Carr, Lorraine Lackman and Ruth Morris. Tickets are $1 each or six foi" $5. It is not neces- sary to be present to win the raffle. Special features at the Christ- mas shop are the Potpourri booth, the Bake Shop, Sew-Sews, St. George's ECW, and the Christmas Cafe, serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 daily. Trail Day volunteers to meet Sept. 6 The Volunteer Corps of Cape Henlopen will be hosting the monthly Volunteer Trail Maintenance Day on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. until noon. Participants will help clean and maintain a section of the more than 10 miles of interpretive, hiking and multi-use trails in the park. Volunteers should meet at the Seaside Nature Center at 9 a.m. Volun- teer Trail Day is held the first Saturday of each month. For more infor- mation, call the Nature Center at 645-6852. HAPPY HOUR AT THE BAR EVERYDAY 4-7 The following movies are now playing in the resort area: • Kull the Conqueror - Slave warrior Kull (Kevin Sorbo) must fight to reclaim his crown as king, secure the freedom of his people and reunite with the woman of his dreams. Rated PG- 13. • Excess Baggage - Alicia Sil- verstone stars as a rich kid who fakes her own kidnapping in order to gain attention. Silverstone also takes a turn as producer of the movie. Rated PG-I 3. • She's So Lovely - Real-life couple Robin Wright and Sean Penn star as passionate lovers who are separated when Penn's charac- ter is admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Upon his return 10 years later, Wrigh t is married to a wealthy man (played by John Tra- volta). Rated R. • Hoodlum - A gritty 1930s crime saga starring Laurence Fishburne as the legendary Harlem gangster Bumpy Johnson. Rated R. • Money Talks. Chris Tucker plays a street hustler who is teamed with Charlie Sheen (a hap- less TV reporter) in a shake-down adventur.e/comedy. Rated R. • Cop Land - There's an Oscar buzz circulating for Sly Stallone in this drama feature hard-core police intrigue in Small Town, USA. Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel are a welcome addition to the film, which is directed by James Mangold. Rated R. • G.I. Jane -Demi Moore shows her flex appeal in a femi- nist military drama. Rated R. • Mimic - Giant insects are on the loose in the subways of Man- hattan. Mira Sorvino and Jeremy Northam try to save the day. Rat- ed R. • Event Horizon - Laurence Fishburne, Joely Richardson, Sam Neill and Holley Chant team up aboard the Daylight Space Station orbiting Earth in a tooth-and-nail science fiction thriller. You'll see lots of blood and guts, not to men- tion more than a few nifty special effects. Rated R. • Steel- Shaquille O'Neal stars asa scientist working on an inno- vative defense device which uti- lizes sound waves to neutralize approaching enemies without killing them. Rated PG-I 3. • Masterminds - Thriller fea- turing Patrick Stewart ("Star Trek," "Jeremy") as a suburban school's security consultant who takes the entire student body hostage. He then demands a ran- som from his ex-boss, whose daughter is a student. Rated PG- 13. • Leave it to Beaver - It's just as if "The Beave" never got a day older! Wait, ll you see Ward and June. Rated PG. • Conspiracy Theory - Imag- ine a world in which everything you fear comes true. That's what happe.ns for Mel Gibson in this drama, which also stars "Pretty Volunteers sought for The Seaside Nature Center at Cape Henlo'pen State Park is look- ing for a few good ghouls and goblins to participate in the 8th Annual Halloween Spook Trail. The event will take place Frid0.y, Saturday and Sunday evening, Oct. 24-26. A Fantasy 'Frail for small children featuring non- threatening fairy-tale characters will run from 6 to 8 p.m., and a Trail of Terror, populated with ghouls, goblins, monsters and fiends, runs from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. the first two nights and until 10:30 or 11 on Sunday. Cape Park Spook Trail Volunteers are needed to play fantasy and trail of terror charac- ters, operate a 16 mm film projec- tor, work in the refreshment stand and help with assorted other tasks during the event. Volunteers are" also needed to carve the hundreds of Jack-o-Lanterns that guide visi- tors along the trails. Character and refreshment stand volunteers must be at least 21 years of age and can work one, two or all three nights. For other tasks, volunteers may be as young as 14.
