For breald!,tst, lunch or dinner, the Great American Diners the place Brothers Dennis and Donald Santangini thought it was about time Rehoboth Beach had a diner with not only family prices, but which put an emphasis on a gourmet flair. That's why the two men decided to open the Great American Diner at 32B Wilmington Avenue in Rehoboth Beach, below the Brighton Suites. The Santangini brothers have taken the diner to the next level, infusing its menu" with each and every aspect of a traditional American diner and adding gourmet specialty items. "We have wonderful evening specials," said Dennis Santangini. "Examples of these specials include fresh salmon s'aut6ed in basil with a crab meat cream sauce, or Jumbo Shrimp and Scallops Alfredo." He said the establishment, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, also includes a line-up of two fresh "Catch of the Day" specials as well. Traditional dinner menu items include Mom's Homemade Meatloaf, Open-faced turkey and roast beef platters and chicken tenders with golden fried clam strips. Crab cakes and Crab Imperial have also made the Great American Diner's menu, as well as stuffed shrimp and flounder. Chicken Marsalla, Veal Picante and Filet Mignon are also highlighted. Din- ners are served with a choice of mashed, French- fried or scalloped potatoes and vegetable of the day with rolls and butter. The Great American Diner is the perfect place to situate yourself if you're in the market for a hearty breakfast. The restaurant features such staple menu items as corned beef hash and eggs, omelets (any style under the sun) and flapjacks. For the more adventurous morning palate, try Tango -"a breakfast specialty item which combines saut6ed apples and a thin coating of cream cheese, stuffed between our famous battered dipped egg bread, grilled golden brown and served with your choice of meat." For lunch, the diner showcases an array of all- time faves such as burgers and fries, plus a full line- up of grilled chicken sandwiches. Den's Delight chicken sandwiches feature an eight-ounce chicken breast topped with bacon, tomatoes, melted cheddar cheese and honey mustard, while the Wing Ding is marinated in spicy hot wing sauce and covered with bleu cheese. House specials for lunch are the Texas Tommy, a super-size dog split and stuffed with cheese, then wrapped in bacon and deep fried, and Dagwood's Delight - three layers of toast with your choice of listed meats and bacon, lettuce and tomato with mayonnaise.
