CAPE GAZET'YE - Friday, September 1 - Monday, September 4, 2006 - 61 Submitted photo Store Manager Evelyn Kyritsis displays the wares at Overfalls Ship Shop. Overfalls Ship Shop enhances lightship experience in Lewes i By Aimee Wiest 'Sbcial to the Cape Gazette An old bait shack has been reborn as a new ship shop. The historic Overfalls Ship Shop func- tions as a data port for the ship and a place for nautical purchases. Prior to walking up the gang plank for a guided tour of the lightship, volunteer shopkeepers can provide background informa- tion. The shop sells children's items such as clothing, caps and puzzles emblazoned with the ship's logo. Larger shirt and hat sizes plus scrimshaw earrings, mugs, glass- es and other items may appeal to adults. The shop also carries art ranging from an oil painting of The Overfalls bravely withstand- ing turbulent waters to stunning photos and prints of the historic lightship. All changes to the old bait shack donated by the City of Lewes reflect the skilled laboring of Overfalls' Dirty Hands Gang, the same hearty crew of men who have reconditioned the historic light ship. The new shop in the Overfalls area of Lewes Canal Park soundly stands alone yet near a gigantic anchor, a massive sail drying device and The Life Saving Station. The new shop is located between Lewes Little League Park and a grove of cypress trees. For more information, call 645- 4733.
