Manufacturing workshop set for Sept. 15 in Dover Limited seating is still available for the Principles of Lean Manufacturing workshop set for 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 15, at the Terry Campus of Delaware Technical & Community College in Dover. The event is sponsored by the Delaware Manufacturing Extension Partnership (DEMEP). The cost to attend is $295 per par- tic/pant, and companies with three or more participants will receive a 10 percent discount. The Principles of Lean Manufacturing workshop intro- duces participants to the-concept of Lean Manufacturing - a team- based, systematic approach to identifying and eliminating waste- ful activities within an organiza- tion. This concept was pioneered and perfected by Toyota Motor Co. and is described in detail in Taichi Ohno's book "The Machine That Changed the World." "Lean Manufacturing tech- niques can provide Delaware's manufacturing firms with strate- gic advantages and best practices employed by some of the world's most successful manufacturing firms," said DEMEP Executive Director Steve Quindlen. An additional DEMEP program scheduled for September is the Lean Design Workshop: Reducing Cost in New Product Development workshop from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sept. 20 and 21, at the Embassy Suites in Newark. In addition to these workshops, DEMEP also provides representa- tives in all three counties who work on a one-on-one basis with individual manufacturers, provid- ing services tailored to meet spe- cific needs. "Our representatives are extremely knowledgeable in all areas of manufacturing," said Quindlen. "Services we can pro- vide include assessing opportuni- ties and identifying resources, assistance with investments, locating vital resources, imple- menting new technologies, elimi- nating waste, increasing speed to market, developing new products, expanding markets, meeting envi- ronmental standards, achieving ISO certification, and training or retraining employees." A complete list of workshops for fall, including costs, locations, dates, and times is available at DEMEP's website For additional information and registration forms, or to arrange for a DEMEP representative visit, contact Kim Rachiele at 302-283-3131.
