80 - CAPE GAZETTE - Friday, September I - Monday, September 4, 2006 Miller to sign books at Books by the Bay Sept. 8 in Lewes Books by the Bay Caf6 will host a booksigning by Constance Marshall Miller, one of the four authors of "Sailors' Valentines: Their Journey Through Time," from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, Sept. 8, at its 111 Bank Street, Lewes, location. The book contains more than 200 pictures of beau- tiful shell designs, and each pae gives the name of the design, the artist and, when possible, the year completed. There is a history of the art, a chapter on the shell collectors' chests and pictures of the chests used to store the shells as well as the Valentines themselves. Sailors' Valentines originated as a cottage industry on Barbados Island. Today, shell artistry of all kinds, especially Valentines, have become very popular. Back by popular demand, this is the second sign- ing by the author at Books by the Bay.
