Movie times and listings are subject to change. • Crossover: Noah Cruise, a naturally talented basketball play- er, is determined to become a doc- tor using his basketball scholar- ship to UCLA pre-med, rather than succumbing to the lure of a former sports agent Vaughn, and his push for Noah to go for the NBA. Rated PG-13. • Crank: Chev Chelios is about to begin his morning with an unexpected wake-up call. Groggy, practically unable to move and with a heart that's barely beating, he hears the voice of thug Ricky Verona, who reveals Chev has been poisoned in his sleep and only has an hour to live. As it turns out, Chev is a hit man who freelances for a major West Coast syndicate. A run of the mill job the night before instead went awry: he let his target slip away in an effort to quit professional killing and start a new life with his girlfriend Eve. Now, Chev must keep mov- ing to stay alive: the only way to prolong the poison from stopping his heart is to keep his adrenaline flowing. Rated R. • The Wicker Man: Out patrolling a California highway, police officer Edward Malus stops a station wagon to return a little girl's lost doll. Moments later, a runaway truck slams into the-sta- tion wagon, igniting it into a fiery wreck with the mother and child trapped inside. Edwards fails to save them before the car explodes - and then spends months of his life choking down pills to get the image of their faces. Rated PG- hi(lay 8/1 llu,u 11u'sday 9/7 Lady in the Water (PG13) 1:10, 3:20, 7:10, 9:20 13. • Material Girls: Ava and Tanzte Marchetta have it all. The heiresses to a multi-million dollar cosmetics company, the girls approach life as one big party. But when a scandal involving one of their products emerges, the girls are left penniless, homeless, and seemingly helpless. Rated PG. • How To Eat Fried Worms: Based on the popular Thomas Rockwell book, How To Eat Fried Worms tells the story of a boy whose bravado lands him in a dif- ficult predicament. The film revolves around 11-year-old Billy, who inadvertently challenges the school bully on his first day at a new school. In order to save face and earn the respect of his new classmates, Billy agrees to a bet that calls for him to eat 10 worms in one day. Rated PG. • The Illusionist: Eisenheim (Edward Norton) is a stage magi- cian who amazes the audiences of turn-of-the-century Vienna, draw- ing the attention of Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell). When the Prince's intended, Sophie von Teschen (Jessica Bid), assists the magician onstage, Eisenheim and Sophie recognize each other from their childhoods - and a dormant love affair is rekindled. Rated PG-13. • Little Miss Sunshine: The Hoover family treks from Albuquerque to the Little Miss Sunshine pageant in Redondo Beach, California, to fulfill the deepest wish of 7-year-old Olive, an ordinary little girl with big dreams. Along the way the family must deal with crushed dreams, heartbreaks, and a broken-down VW bus, leading up to the surreal Little Miss Sunshine competition itself. Rated R. • Beerfest: When American brothers Todd and Jan Wolfhouse travel to Germany to spread their grandfather's ashes at Oktoberfest, they stumble upon a super-secret, centuries old, under- ground beer games competition - "Beefiest," the secret Olympics of beer drinking. Rated R. • Accepted: High school sen- ior Bartleby "B" Gaines ;s on his way to scoring eight out of eight rejection letters from colleges, which isn't going over big with Mom and Dad. At least he's not alone in the exclusion. Several of his crew of outcast friends are in the same, college-less boat. So how does a guy facing a bleak career please his parents and get noticed by dream girl, Monica? Simple. Open his own university. Rated R. • World Trade Center: True story of Will Jimeno and John McLoughlin, two Port Authority police officers who rushed into the burning World Trade Cener on 9/11 to help rescue efforts but became trapped themselves when the tower collapsed. Rated PG- 13. • Step Up: Everyone deserves a chance to follow their dreams, but some people only get one shot. Tyler Gage is a rebel from the wrong side of Baltimore's tracks - and the only thing that stands between .him and an unfulfilled life are his dreams of one day making it out of there. Rated PG- 13. • Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby: Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell) is a NASCAR racing sensation whose "win at all costs" approach has made him a national hero. He and his loyal racing partner and child- hood friend, Cal Naughton Jr. (John C. Reilly), axe a fearless duo, thrilling their fans by finish- ing most races in the top spots - with Ricky Bobby always leading the pack.
