Benbow, Betts win annual Bill Degnan 5K Faith in human spirit was in the air at the llth annual Bill Degnan 5K run, Saturday, Aug. 26, as 120 runners and walkers remembered one of the most popular teachers in the Cape community with a 5K run and a one-mile walk at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes. The event was the final chapter of the 16th consecutive Seashore Strider Summer Racing Series and a final chance to qualify for the championship series. The proceeds of the 5K run were to benefit the annual Bill Degnan Scholarship presented this year to Alex Makowski, for- mer distance runner for the Vikings. Enos Benbow, winner of multi- ple events this summer, captured the overall title with a time of 16:43, while master runner Jean Betz finished 20th to win the overall female title in 21:59. Ed Jordan finished fifth to win the male master title in 19:02, while Margaret Colvin of Rehoboth fin- ished 27th in 22:58 to capture the female masters.
