CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, September 2 - September 8, 1994 - 25 Huling Cove CHEER Center plans activities The Huling Cove CHEER Cen- ter at 1140 Savannah Road in Lewes is planning a variety of events in September. An Edith "Dade" Tomlin Cele- bration is slated for 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2, with a luncheon donation of $1.25 for those over 60 and $3.50 for those under 60 years of age. Tomlin represented the senior citizens of Delaware at Senior In- tern Week in Washington, D.C. and the center would like to show its appreciation to her. Sen. Bill Roth will arrive at 10 a.m., with ceremonies at 11 a.m. and lunch at noon. The public is invited to attend. Ed and Marion Balducci will lead the dancing and the public is invited to participate. The cost for lunch is $1.25 for those over 60 and $3.50 for those under. A breakfast with friends is slat- ed for 8 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, featuring all-you-can-eat pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, coffee or tea and juice. A celebrity eat off will be held at 9 a.m. The donation is $3 for adults and $2 for children. A food stamp presentation is set for Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m. Pat Millman from Health and Social Services will explain how to obtain food stamps and the public is invited. Mark Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m., when everyone is invited to a talent show, while Maryellen Anderson from the Arthritis Foun- dation will present a talk at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28. The Mother Nature Speaks Club will meet from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30, featuring entertainment, with the donation $6.25 for din- ner. RAL sets modem poetry workshops in September / Dr. Anne Colwell, who guided nearly a dozen budding poets in her "Poetry Writing" workshop last spring at Rehoboth Art League will return on Saturdays, Sept. 17 and 24 from 2 to 4 p.m., to offer her professional expertise on "Reading Modern Poems." The course is open to all those interested in oral interpretation of modern poetry and participants should bring their favorite anthol- ogy with them to the workshop. Colwell, an assistant professor of English at the Parallel Program, University of Delaware in Georgetown, is a published poet and a member of "Poetry Aloud," a group of W.D. Snodgrass- trained poetry readers. "Poetry Aloud" performed for a large RAL audience in June. Colwe|l has been awarded the Gregory Prize for Poetry four times and was the winner of the 1993 Experienced Artist Fellow- ship Grant from the Delaware State Arts Council.
