Cape Gazette FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 - MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2013 9 Labor Day reminds me of an important spark plug in the engine of a vibrant economy, a society driven not by entitlements, but by enterprising men and women who develop new products and services which constantly improve our standard of living, the highest of any nation in history. Entrepreneurs drive a free- market economy and small businesses create 66% of all new jobs in the U.S. Blockbuster businesses start with an idea and eagerness to work. Capitalism cannot exist without individuals who take risks and provide the energy to produce new goods and services. There are those who may argue that the creative age in America is passing, that the Henry Fords and the Thomas Edisons are gone. Folks, they are gone only if we let them! In spite of the fact that over 50% of us receive checks from some government agency, I believe Ahaericans have inherited a legacy which will continue to build a better world. Western Europe is drifting into a lethargy of socialism. They lack the American dream. Winston Churchill may have said it best, "The inherent voice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessing. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery." Today liberals would have us believe that you and I must share the losses of an administration that is so far off-course that enough natural gas to support us for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. it will make our children and their children responsible for an enormous debt. It gets worse! Today we read the Obama crowd is again backing a tax on carbon emissions, under a theory that carbon dioxide is dangerous to humans, when in fact it is necessary for the When developed, these resources can and hopefully will, eliminate any further need for foreign oil. Our costs for heating, cooking, oil and gas should substantially fall. Folks, our standard of living growth and health of all plant will improve, but only if life. we do not elect legislators Plants thrive on carbon dioxide and provide life- enhancing oxygen for you and me. A carbon tax would also have the reverse effect of increasing the cost of virtually all foods - again spreading the misery. It is hoped that we can take a more positive and healthy approach to improving our health and quality of life. President Obama has, for some reason, declared war on fossil fuels, i.e coal, gas and oil, which are the cheapest, most efficient and safest sources of energy. Instead they have been pushing sources like wind, solar and grain (ethanol), all of which costs over 20 times as much to produce. We, the taxpayers, lost some $500 billion taxpayer dollars when Solyndra went bankrupt. Come on! who increase unnecessary regulations and taxes. The gist of this is that if we lower the costs of energy we will thereby lower the costs of goods and services so as to successfully compete in world markets and thereby improve our standard of living. All of this knowledge is useless unless we find a way to make it work. Fortunately, we are a democracy. Our next important election will be in November, 2014. That is 13 months from today. That gives us 13 months to find good men and women to represent our best interests in preserving our liberty, faith and freedom in this great nation.
