AWANA to resume at First Baptist Church
The 1996-97 AWANA program will begin Wednesday, Sept. 18 at
the First Baptist Church of Lewes.
AWANA, which stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not
Ashamed", is a Bible-centered youth program which runs from
September through May of each year. Programs are offered for youth in
five different age groups, ranging from three years old through the sixth
grade, and includes such activities as game time, Bible study,
handbooks and crafts, field trips and many other special events.
The church also runs a program for seventh grade through high
school teens which runs simultaneously on Wednesday evenings.
All youth from ages three through high school are invited to attend.
Both programs begin at 6:55 p.m. on Wednesday evenings and
conclude at 8:30 p.m. The Fast Baptist Church is located at 1001 Kings
Highway, Lewes. For more information call 645-6330.
Christ's Church, Harbeson, sets events
Christ's Church of Harbeson is planning a number of events during
the month of September. A Cemetery Rally will be held at 3 p.m.,
Saturday, Sept. 14, with the Rev. E. Willidms of Millsboro officiating.
Family Day will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15 with Min Taylor
of Centreville, Md., while Colors of Praise, Red, White and Green, will
take place at 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 2. Rev. Martha Tankard, pastor,
invites everyone to participate.
Walking Meditation set at St. Peter's
Walking Meditation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15 at
St. Peter's Labyrinth, a 30-foot circular replica of the path laid in the
floor of France's Chartres Cathedral, which will be open for reflective
prayer in the Parish Hall, Second and Mulberry streets, Lewes. For
more information call 645-2192 or 684-1652.
RCIA kicks off at St. Edmond's on Sept. 16
The 1996-97 Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) will begin
at St. Edmond's Education Building, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth
Beach, at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16, and will continue weekly until
late spring of 1997. RCIA is a process for welcoming new members
into the Roman Catholic Church. The RCIA is an ongoing four step
process. The first phase, the inquiry, begins Sept. 16 and includes a
welcoming prayer, scripture, witnessing, presentation, reflection and"
dialogue. Those searching for deeper answers to life's challenges and
those who are seeking to deepen or renew their faith will find these
sessions of prayer, study and mutual support extremely beneficial. This
ends with the rite of acceptance into the order of catechumens, usually
in late November or early December. The second period includes
instruction and reflection on the sacred scripture, Jesus, Mass,
sacraments and daily living in the church. The third period, the
enlightenment, coincides with Lent and is a time of purification and
prayer, which concludes with the sacraments of Initiation, Baptism for
the unbaptized, Confirmation and Eucharist. The fourth period extends
through the Easter season and is a time for deepening the Christian
experience for spiritual growth. Those inquiring into this RCIA
journey are under no obligation and one may go at one's own pace,
discontinue at any time. For information call 227-4550 or 227-4553.

Have you been wondering what is going on with the sign in front of our Kings Highway location?
On New Years Eve and again just a few weeks ago our custom sign suffered the impact of automobiles loosing control on Kings Highway. Because our sign is
custom built and you just don't pick them up at the local store, we have been in a state of turmoil. Soon the original pole design will be reinstalled and the formal
landscaping of that area can be finalized. We thank you for your patience.
