Briefly CNAs to celebrate nursing Sept. 17 "You're Special: A Certified Nursing Assist,ant!" is a celebra- tion of certified nursing assistants (CNAs) on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Delaware Technical & Communi- ty College in Georgetown. The special recognition day will focus on the contributions and skills of CNAs in the healthcare field and will offer participants 4.5 contact hours. The keynote presenters are as follows: Ellen Reap, BSN, direc- tor of the office of Health Facili- ties, Licensing and Certification in Delaware; and Barbara Wilson, MEd, retired educator and now a motivational speaker. Workshop topics include grief, sign language, parenting skills, career ladder, relaxation tech- niques and stress management. Networking, exhibits, lunch, door prizes and a fashion show by Leggett's in Milford are included in the day's activities. The Grand Door Prize is a two-night stay in Ocean City, Md. The planning committee for the recognition is composed of repre- sentatives from Life Care at Lofland Park; CHEER Home Health Services; Millsboro Nurs- ing Home; Geriatric Services of Delaware, Inc.; and Delaware Technical & Community College The fee for the celebration is $20. MS picnic to be held on Sept. 15 The Sussex County Multiple Sclerosis Family Picnic will be held at Trap Pond State Park on Rt. 24 in Laurel from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15. Blood Bank passes FDA inspection After an unannounced visit to Newark, Delaware headquarters, Blood Bank of Delaware/Eastern Shore has again passed a rigorous inspection by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with no de- ficiencies cited. The FDA con- ducts these inspections regularly of all registered blood donation centers and hospital transfusion services throughout the country. The FDA's inspection involved extensive review of the Blood Bank's records, including quality control documentation, donor records, the blood donation process, preparation of blood components and laboratory testing of blood. In addition to the FDA's inspec- tion, Blood Bank of Delaware/Eastern Shore is also in- spected by the American Associa- tion of Blood Banks (AABB) and the states of Delaware and Mary- land.
