62 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, Sept. 22 - Sept. 28, 2000 Chinese Buffet opens in Rehoboth Mall By Trish Vernon Those searching for a sumptu- ous array of Chinese delicacies, served in a refined yet casual at- mosphere should look no further than the Panda Chinese Buffet, which opened last week in the Re- hoboth Mall. Serving lunch and dinner, seven days a week year 'round, The Pan- da Chinese Buffet specializes in buffet-style service, so that cus- tomers can quickly chose a bit of everything that appeals to their eye and go back for seconds. According to Manager Mandy Chart, the restaurant, which seats 200 people comfortably, features three different lineups - a cold sal- ad and dessert bar and two hot bars - with specials changing every day. The offerings range from traditional Chinese fare such as egg rolls, 1o me in and moo goo gai pan to the more exotic General Tso's Chicken and a beef cooked with wine, scallions and ginger, sushi dishes, as well as mussels baked with a cheesy topping. For those with more pedestrian tastes, the Panda Chinese Buffet also offers Americanized dishes such as pizza, pasta in tomato sauce, baked flounder and ham. The cold bar is abundant in freshly steamed seafood such as shrimp and mussels, as well as fresh fruit and desserts - even ap- ple pie - to satisfy the sweet tooth. There's a soda fountain featur- ing soft drinks, hot coffee and tea, as well as an ice cream maker. For those on a budget with big ap- petites, the buffet price - $5.99 for lunch and $8.99 for dinner - is hard to beat, and that includes a drink. The buffet is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thurs- day and until 10 p.m., Saturday, with Sunday buffet from noon to 9 p.m. The restaurant continues serving off the menu until 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday and un- til 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday. The regular menu features the extensive variety expected of a Chinese restaurant - appetizers like shrimp toast and dumplings, soups, fried rice, chicken, pork, beef and seafood dishes, with combination plates and chef's specials such as Happy Family, Tung Ting Shrimp and Four Sea- sons. Spicy hot Szechuan and Hu- nan dishes also grace the menu and there are diet meals for those watching their weight and choles- terol. There are also 26 lunch spe- cials served with soup or egg roll and pork fried rice and take outs are available all day The Panda Buffet is also unique in that it offers a party/meeting room, a private area which can be reserved for as many as 32 people. Comfortable large booths predom- inate in the well-appointed main dining room, with subtle lighting and warm decor. Chan and the staff of 10 await to greet and seat customers and help them with their selections. For more infor- mation and take outs, call 644- 7198.
