The fundraiser supports education and restoration efforts for Delaware's inland bays. The bays have a number of environ- mental issues affecting them, al- though pollution from excessive amounts of nutrients is generally regarded as the worst environ- mental problem. A number of efforts, including efforts to control runoff from farmland, to eliminate point source discharges like sewer plants and ongoing education ef- forts are underway. Restoration efforts include sample shellfish plantings and efforts to restore eel grass to the bays. Despite environmental con- cerns, the bays still attract enor- mous numbers of fishermen, boaters, clammers and nature lovers. They are considered both beautiful and a major attraction for tourists and local residents. The Splash '99 event will fea- ture a live and silent auction, food, music and more, all held within sight of Rehoboth Bay.
