CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, September 25 - October 1, 1998 - 27 Givens leaving Sussex YMCA post of executive director Celia Givens, who has served as executive director of the Sussex Family YMCA since April 1996, has tendered her resignation to take on the position of executive director of the Carroll County, Md. YMCA in Westminster, Md. Her last day in her Rehoboth Beach office will be Friday, Oct. 9. Born and raised in West Vir- ginia, Givens graduated Concord College in west Virginia and completed graduate work at West Virginia University. She spent eight years as a teacher before gravitating into the child-care field and began work at the Fred- erick, Md2 YMCA, where she spent eight years before accepting the Sussex position. "I consider that part of Mary- land home and have been going back and forth every weekend due to family concerns. I had fully in- tended to stay here for six to eight years and I want to thank the com- munity for its tremendous sup- port. "Everyone has really made me feel a part of the community, es- pecially in the off-season. I will miss everyone, but I believe the Sussex Y' has a wonderful future ahead of it and I look forward to seeing it grow and spread out fur- ther into the county," Givens said. Givens went on to say she's very excited about this year's Cam- paign for Kids, "which has so much momentum. The board and the com- mittees are so enthusias- tic this year GIVENS and I expect it will be our best capital cam- paign ever." Givens added that she plans to return for the Century Club Din- ner, slated for Monday, Nov. 16, at Crabber's Cove in Dewey Beach, when Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, of Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons' fame, will be the guest speaker. Anyone wishing to donate to the Campaign for Kids or to learn more about the Century Club Din- ner should contact the YMCA at 227-8018. A search committee, headed by Dave Gillan, will be working on finding a replacement for Givens. In the meantime, Cheryl Baldwin will serve as acting executive di- rector.
