Roosevelt was campaigning hard for his first term as president and an opportunity to bring the nation out of the throes of the Great De- pression. "Dad was doing any work he could find when they were first married," said Warrington. In 1941, the couple bought a home in the Woodlawn section of Baltimore County, where they raised their family and remained until 1982, when they moved to Rehoboth Beach for their golden years. "We've had a very good life," said Mary Cole. "We lived on $18 a week in the early years, but we lived well. It was a different time back then, a simpler time; it was a good time to raise a family."
