RISTO Seaford Artist, Caries Amill, winner of 1996 Individual Artist Fellowship from the Delaware Division of the Arts, pauses for a reflective moment in his studio. Amilrs "Vanitas Mundi" Exhibit opens with reception at Art League on Oct. 6 Caries Amill of Seaford, one of nine recipients of the 1996 Indi- vidual Artist Fellowships for an established Professional in Paint- ing from the Delaware Division of the Arts, will present his recent paintings in a special exhibit enti- tled "Vanitas Mundi" in the Chambers Studio of the Rehoboth Art League from Oct. 1-31. An opening reception, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2-4 p.m. Originally from Catalonia, Spain, Amill received his Mas- ter's of Fine Arts from the Univer- sity of Barcelona in 1977. He has followed his education with an ac- tive career as an internationally recognized artist, art conserva- tionist and historian, and full pro- fessor with the Technical School of Art, Reus, Spain. Amill's works have been exhibited in prestigious galleries throughout Spain, Mexico, Texas and New York. "Vanitas Mundi isa touring exhibit, which after leaving the R Long RAL will go to Gallery 1 in Wilm- ington, in November and then to the Art Center and Gallery at Delaware State University, Dover, in January, 1977. "Emptiness, falseness, and silli- ness are accurate definitions of 'vanitas'," according to Amill, and "Sky, world, but also, our worldly goods, define Mundi." In describing the style of "vanitas" for his upcoming exhibit at the Rehoboth Art League, Amill and depends on objects...They keep expanding and falling into disuse, but they never expire. We save them because they represent our living memory." Well known writer and journalist Mike Billing- ton describes Amill's work as having "whispers."
