66. cAPE CE, Frida,*temb 27 - Oct0br 8,i6 Angle Moon photo Red Cross benefits from Beach Fest '96 Peggy Raley, owner of Nassau Valley Vineyards, is flanked by the honorary chairmen of the Beach Fest '96, Kitty and Gene Bookhammer during festivities held Sept. 22 to benefit the American Red Cross. The crowd enjoyed sampling delica- cies from a variety of Cape Region restaurants and wines from the Nassau Vineyards. Family Faire to feature bands, games, grape stomping Oct. 5-6 Nassau Valley Vineyards will present the Family Faire (Fourth Annual Harvest Fest '96) on Sat- urday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6 just north of Five Points, Lewes. Family Faire is a two-clay cele- bration of music, wines from Nas- sau Valley Vineyards and beers from Dogfish Head Brewing and Eats, food, fall farm market, hayrides, circus acts, grape stomp- ing, parachute play and plenty more. Back again this year will be rep- resentatives from the Evans Shi- itake Farms of Ocean View and John Zeron of Newark with his fine meads made at his Coventree Grove Meadery, according to Nassau Valley Vineyards propri- etor Peggy Raley. There will be live performances by Raley's band Eclypse, along with Extremity featuring Perky Scott; Big Hat, No Cattle; The Is- land Boyz; tap dancer John Forg6 and vocalist Angela Hill. There will be a live broadcast from WZSK 103.5 The Shark. Festivities will be held through- out the day, with general admis- sion at $6 per person, although those under 21 pay only $3 and children 12 and under are free. For more information call 645- WINE. Long Neck Country Fair set Oct. 12 The Long Neck Business Asso- ciation will present a "Country Fest" on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Island Pavil- ion in Pot Nets. The event will feature live mu- sic by 1 of 4 Peninsula Blue Grass Bands, dance contests for Best Country Two-Step dancers, old fashioned games for both kids vld adults including sack races, egg throws and horseshoes, a pumpkin painting concert, firetruck rides and local crafts. There will also be special appearances by Disney characters, magician Jack Noel and Cheryl's Dance Alley. Movies to perform at Sea Witch Festival The Movies will be the Band- stand entertainment during the Oct. 26-27, 7th Annual Sea Witch Halloween Festival & Fiddler's Convention in Rehoboth Beach- Dewey Beach. The band will per- form from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m .on Oct. 26, with 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 set as a rain date. Other events include a laser show, 5K foot race & walk, craft shows, horse shows on the beach, pony rides, haunted houses, horse drawn hayfides anffbroom toss. There will be a Beer Wagon on hand, as well as a Pig Roast and oyster fritters. Admission is $3 at the gate with children under 12 admitted free. Bring your own blankets and folding chairs. All proceeds from this event will ben- efit local organizations. Art Mound To vn returns to Lewes Nov. 3 Even though it is still several weeks away, the Sussex County Arts Council has plans on the drawing board for the third Art Around Town to be set in Lewes. This year, the art walk is set for Sunday, Nov. 3, from 2-5 p.m.; the public event is free. Committee members made the change from a Friday evening event to Sunday afternoon to in- elude more out-of-town visitors and local residents who may have more time for a weekend after- noon outing. As in years past, work of local artists will be dis- played in various settings around Governor's Fall Festival set for Woodburn Oct. 5 The 20th Annual Fall Festival, hosted by Governor and Mrs. Thomas R. Carper, will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 at Woodburn, 151 King's Highway in Dover. The festival will feature a 5K Run/Walk, a wheelchair race, and a children's fair with games, rides, petting zoo and horseback rides. There will also be a craft fair with over 100 vendors featuring some of the finest arts and crafts in Delmarva. Entertainment will also be provided with Soldiers of the Cross, Grandpa Jammers with Helen Lind, Love Ensemble, Dia- mond Statesmen, Clowns of Delaware and Miss Delaware. In addition, a numbered, first edition basket will be on sale from now until Oct. 5. There are only 250 available and proceeds bene- fit the Children's portion of the Festival. Cape Henlopen Craft Fair set Saturday in Lewes The Lewes Historical Society's Craft Fair will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The craft fair will be held on the park- like grounds of the society's His- toric Complex. Committee member Mike Tyler said that approximately a dozen sites including restaurants, shops and galleries will display art and serve complimentary hors d'oeuvres and refreshments. Artists will be on hand to greet the public. Tyler said that exhibit sites will be primarily centralized in downtown Lewes to maintain the "walk-around" aspect of the art tour. Kings Ice Cream on Second Street will serve as the headquar- ters where maps and information will be available. Specific artists and sites will be announced soon. On this year's committee, Tyler is joined by Lou Braithwaite, Bar- bara Berl, Julie Molineaux and Tony Boyd-Heron. For informa- tion on Art Around Town, call 856-5421.
