;i 48 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 1 - MONDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2010 BUSINESS & REAL ESTATE Cape Gazette Donna Davis returns as nail, skin-care specialist By Kara Nuzback knuzback@capegazette.com John Lorraine European Hair is opening its doors for the 30th year in a row. This year, the sa- lon welcomes back nail and skin- care specialist Donna Davis, who is happy to land there after a stint in real estate. Davis started her career with John Lorraine 31years ago and was with the company when it moved to its current location on Ann Avenue and Route I in Re- hoboth a year later. After 11 years, Davis left to open her own salon, Donna's Designing Women, which she operated for 18 years. In 1999, Davis won the DeVries chapter of Professional Business Women Woman of the Year Award for Delaware. A dinner was held in her honor, guests in- eluded mayors of Lewes and Re- hoboth. "It was an honor I'll nev- er forget," she said. When a flood Severely dam- aged her shop, Davis was forced to shut down until renovations could be made. She ended up renting out her building and changing to a career in real es- tate, but she soon missed her old career. She still works in real estate, but she said she enjoys making people happy at the salon and does not mind leaving behind the roller coaster of emotions in real estate sales. "I didn't realized how much I missed it here," Davis said. Owner Lorraine Ridley of John Lorraine called Davis and of- fered her a position. Davis was hesitant at first. "Once you've chosen a profession and worked at it for 30 years, it's not so easy to retire. Part of you just goes away." Davis is now back with the company. She is happy and striv- niversary, owners John and Lor- ing to stay a cut above in the raine Ridley are offering a 20 business of nail and skincare.
