CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, October 9 - October 15, 1998 - 43 SvmDosium a Beebe Ivledical Center and Jef- ferson Medical College sponsored the seventh annual Symposium By The Sea Oct. 2-4, in Rehoboth Beach. One-hundred physicians from five of the Mid-Atlantic states and Washington, D.C., met to discuss some of the latest de- velopments in medicine. "It's basically a broad, general medical update," said Dr. Ken- neth Epstein, who co-coordinated helps the symposium with Dr. James Beebe of Beebe Medical Center. What's most valuable to the physicians, he said, is that they of- ten learn what is new in fields out- side their own specialties. "It's useful for all of us to know some- thing about all fields of medi- cine," he said. Most of them, he said, are primary care doctors. The speakers for the sessions are leaders in their fields. Sub- jects addressed at the seminar in- cluded cardiovascular disease, in- somnia management, asthma care, osteoporosis, low back pain, joint pain, hormone replacement thera- py and integrative health. Topics for the integrative health sessions included complementary therapies in women's health, med- ical indications for acupuncture, mindfulness meditation for stress reduction and domestic violence. Arthritis support group available in Cape Region Beebe Medical Center and the Arthritis Foundation co-sponsor a support group for people with arthritis, their friends, their fami- lies or other interested people.
