CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, October 9 - October 15, 1998- 69 MaynardFerguson, Phil Woods Quartet to make Cape Region appearance Jazz legend Maynard Ferguson will make a rare appearance in the region during the upcoming jazz festival. Ferguson, along with saxo- phone great Phil Woods, The David Schiff Quartet and the Cape Henlopen High School Band, are the featured entertainers for a concert series at 1776 Clas- sic American Steakhouse, Satur- day and Sunday, Oct. 17-18. A heated, totally-enclosed tent- ed structure in front of the 1776 Restaurant at the Midway Palace Theatres will be the site of "The Midway Jazz Pavillion," a jazz club for nearly 250 .people. Full bars with wine and beer will be lo- cated within the tented club. The concert schedule is as fol- lows: Saturday, Oct. 17 - The Phil Woods Quintet for two shows, 6:30 and 9 p.m. Tickets for each of the shows are available at The 1776 Restaurant for $25 each. Sunday, Oct. 18 - "Jazz Leg- ends Bar-B-Que," featuring pic- nic-style foods and jazz music. The David Schiff Quartet from Wilmington will play at 3:30 p.m., followed by The Phil Woods Quintet at 5 p.m. The grand finale will be Maynard Ferguson and His Big Bop Noveau Band. May- nard and his band have also invit- ed the Cape Henlopen High School Band to play with his group during the encore. Tickets for the event are $25 and are available at The 1776 Restaurant and through the Cape Henlopen High School Band. A portion of all ticket sales will benefit the Cape Henlopen High School Band.
