Gilligan's Restaurant send s off another successful season this wee00:end in Lewes Gilligan's Restaurant, celebrated for its creative cuisine, friendly staff and splendid views of the Lewes Canal, will close for the 1997 season on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 13. The establish- ment plans to reopen in early April. You won't want to miss the last weekend of this picture-perfect dining experience, offset by a casual and unique atmosphere. Reservations are recom- mended to avoid disappointment. Proprietor Patrick Shehan and Executive Chef Michael Clampitt have fashioned a menu that's filled with clever creations for lunch and dinner Appetizers include sumptuous items, such as warm blue cheese dip (a delectable blend of blue cheese, pancetta, chives and almonds served with croutes) and Drew's Favorite Shrimp (char-grilled and stuffed with horseradish, wrapped in smoked bacon with baby greens and Dijon mustard-thyme vinaigrette. Lunch includes Gilligan's legendary jumbo lump crab-cake sandwich, made without filler and served on French bread with savory remoulade sauce. Crab ;cakes also make an appearance as a dinner entr6e, cheese, portabella mushrooms, sundried tomatoes and a tomato-basil relish. Each dinner is a special occasion at Gilligan's, where great emphasis is placed on flavor, freshness and presentation. Specials are featured nightly, and include dishes created personally by Chef Clampitt. Entr6es made famous by Gilligan's include horseradish herb-crusted salmon, accompanied by chive mashed potatoes, and a julienne of carrots and fennel, and herb-infused rack of lamb, pan-seared to perfection and served with warm citrus couscous and cranberry-tangerine compote. A saut6 of shrimp and sea scallops is another offering, served on farfalle pasta in a ragout of savory fennel, onion and tomatoes glazed in Chardonnay. Hoison-glazed grilled swordfish on an elegant Asian ratatouille and honey-pecan crusted red snap- per with a julienne of Swiss chard and black-eyed pea relish, are not to be overlooked, either. Complement your meal with a selection from the establishment's varied wine list. Your dining experience won't be complete until where they are accompanied by baby greens and you sample an item from the dessert menu, which frizzled leeks, currently includes fresh fruit cobbler, citrus-scented At lunch you'll also find the char-grilled London cheesecake and strawberry-mango creme brul6e Broil sandwich, tender marinated beef that is grilled (just to mention a few). and served on French bread with charred onion- boursin spread, roasted red peppers and watercress, and the Harborside Turkey Burger, freshly ground- to-order and topped with smoked Gouda and wild mushrooms.
